How to sell on ebay: Listing An Item

In this section , I will be discussing how to technically list an item you want to sell on eBay.

There is three eBay selling formats: Auction format, Fixed price and store Inventory Format. Those will be discussed in details later.

I designed these tutorials as a step by step Guide, starting from the very basic up to advanced selling on ebay. You can apply the basic steps, get familiar with eBay selling and then come back here for more advanced techniques.

During Listing your item, always try to do it while reading the explanation here. It will be more easy for you and More practical.

• Have a very Nice picture available for the product you are going to sell.
• Let us assume that we are going to sell on ebay this product shown in the figure below. Always keep your pictures in high quality as this one.

Now follow my screenshots for the steps of listing an item to sell on ebay. I will take this product as an example:

1. After you log in to your eBay account, click sell:

2. Now you will be directed to the next page, click start selling:

3. Now the First step is to choose a Category, Let us Find a Category For our product.   Always list your item in the right category. This will improve the search results. Write Down the product name in the search box

In this case we have chosen . After you choose the proper category, click continue.

4. Now you will be directed to Create your listing page, we will discuss each section in details now.The first section as shown below will be for confirming the category you have chosen before. If you want to change the category, you can do it here. If the category is ok, just keep it as it is. You will find also store categories. At this stage , you have not opened an ebay store, so leave it for the time being.

5. In the next section you will be asked to write a title for your listing;

a. Always write a descriptive title: The title of your listing is the most important thing. This is how buyers will find your listing. Be very descriptive and think of what buyers are looking for. In this example I wrote the title “Bebe Sound Baby Monitor Prenatal heart Sounds”. Now if someone searches [bebe sound baby monitor] or [baby monitor] or [baby heart sounds] or [prenatal heart sounds monitor] he will find your listing [because all those words are mentioned in some way in the title]. Imagine if you wrote in your  title “Bebe Sound Baby Monitor”, how many buyers searching for your monitor, will not find it. The Bottom line: keep the title full of the words buyers are searching for.

b. Don't write subtitles as a beginner as it will cost you extra insertion fees.

c. Don't Forget to put the condition of the monitor..Is it new or used?

6. Bring your item to life with pictures: In this section, you will add your picture to your ebay listing

The first step is to click to add pictures as shown in the first figure above, you will be directed to choose basic or self hosting. Choose basic and then click browse to pick up the picture of the monitor from the computer. Take a look on the 2 figures below.

Now you are on your computer, pick up the picture of your product as shown in the left figure above. In the next step, your picture name will appear as shown in the right figure. At this time, you click upload to load your picture to your ebay listing.

This is how your picture will look like after uploading. Please not that you first picture on your ebay listing is always free..If you upload more pictures for the item you are selling on ebay, you will have to pay extra fees for this.

7. Now It is the time to write a description for your ebay listing: Always be ready with a proper and accurate description for the product you are planning to sell on ebay. This will build confidence between you and your buyer.

After writing a clear description of your product, use the tools provided to change the font and color of the description. Always make the description looking attractive. Ebay provide a lot of icons to change the description layout..its exactly like microsoft word [ you can make it center, you can change the font, you can use different colors...etc..]

8. Now its time to choose the selling format:

12.   Before pressing continue, make sure that you have a look on insertion fees [there will be another final value fees which will be charged when your item sells]. You can then press continue.
