Selling On ebay Fixed Price Format

A typical Fixed price listing for selling on ebay works this way

  • Buyers can purchase your item immediately at the price you set, but they cannot bid on your item. This is suitable for buyers who want to get the item fast and don't want to wait for a 7 duration auction.
  • Make sure you meet the requirements for selling at a fixed price: To sell an item at a fixed price, you must meet certain feedback requirements and be selling the item for at least $1.00. These requiremnts will be shown below.
  • Create the listing: When you reach the Choose how you’d like to sell your item section, select the Fixed Price tab and enter the Buy It Now price.
  • If you don’t see the Fixed Price tab, this means that  you don’t meet the requirements for selling at a fixed price.

Here is a screen shot of the Fixed Price Format. The items are numbered and we will discuss each in details

Select the Fixed Price tab as shown above. If you don’t see the Fixed Price tab, this means that you don’t meet the requirements for selling at a fixed price.

1. Buy it now price: put the price you want to sell your item for. There will be no bidding on your item.

2. Best Offer: you can allow buyers to place an offer on your item. This attract more buyers to your listing. When you receive the offer, you can accept it or decline it. The offer price will be lower than the buy it now price.

3.Quantity: put the available quantity of your item.

4. Duration: put the duration of your listing. I prefer good til cancelled which will renew your listing automatically every 30 days. This is very practical when you have a big quantity of the same item.

Q: What Are Feedback requirements of ebay in order to sell as fixed price format??

A: Take a look on this screenshot:

Remeber in tutorial 5, we discussed fees for auction listings. Let us here go and focus on Insetion and final value fees for fixed price format listings. [paypal fees are the same].

Insertion Fees for a fixed price format is constant and is only 35 cents. The fees is the same regardless the buy it now price, the quantity and  the duration. If you list an item for a price of 2 dollars and duration for 3 days, you will pay 35 cents. If you list an item for 5000 dollars and good til cancelled duration, you will also pay 35 cents.

Now you listed your item and paid your insertion fees. If your item is not sold, you don’t pay any thing else. If your item is sold, you will pay a final value feesFinal value fees for a fixed price listing depends on the category in which you listed your item.

Let us have an exercise

You decided to sell a digital camera on ebay. You listed it  as Fixed Price format. The buy it now price was 300 dollars. Shipping for this item is 10 dollars. Your item was sold. Your buyer paid you through paypal. Calculate all the fees associated with this transaction.

Please refer to the above table:

Insertion Fees: Fees for fixed price [$300] = $0.35

Final value fees for $300: This camera falls in the category of consumer electronics. If you see the table in the previous page, then final value fees will be 8% of $50 + 4.5% of 250= 4 + 11.25= $15.25.

Paypal fees for 310 [$300 Selling price +10 Shipping]= $9.29.

Total fees associated with this transaction is:

0.35+15.25+9.29 =  $24.89
